Disney Publishing was kind enough to send me review copies of these two new versions of Cinderella. With the resurgence of interest in the story due to the upcoming film. These two books will be great additions to your collection.
The First book I will review is the Live Action Picture Book of Disney’s Cinderella. Released on January 27th and comes with a cool eBook code that has audio too. The story isn’t your traditional Cinderella story we know from Walt’s classic film. It centers around Ella who finds her way to her true love in Prince Kit. Many references from her journey will be familiar however. The story is written by famed children’s author Brittany Candau. Candau delivers the story in a wonderful way that children will not only relate to but love hearing over and over. With every great children’s book the story needs illustrations. Cory Godbey brings this story to life with his illustrations. They are drawn in a whimsical comic fashion that kids will relate to very easily.
The next book is Walt Disney’s Cinderella. This book will be a must have for children and adults alike.
This is the story we all know and love from Disney’s classic film. Cynthia Rylant retells the story in a very child friendly way without losing any of it’s magic. What really made me excited to open this book however, were the illustrations. Many of you know the name Mary Blair. Blair is a Disney Legend and was one of Walt’s original concept artists. Her work on projects like Peter Pan, Cinderella, Song of the South, and many others helped shape those iconic films. Her work can still be found in Walt Disney World today in the Contemporary Resort and EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion. The artwork contained in this book is nothing short of amazing. Each one could be a full size poster. I would highly recommend adding this to your Disney collection.
Both of these books retail for $16.99 and are available at www.disneybooks.com or your favorite book retailer.
